In addition to being a good sport about my totally inadequate Arctic clothing, Stephan is also a master of the stone stove. We scaled a mountain in Koli to watch the stars rise at 2 p.m.

Frozen Lake in Koli Finland. The ice was relatively thick, but still pretty scary. Standing on the ice though, it was totally clear.

The first ‘morning’ of 2009. Sun rose at 10:30 a.m., set by 2 p.m. The ice on the lake creaked and groaned all night long. It was eerie.
